Jewellery Care Guide

Our plating can last a very long time and to help make your jewellery shine longer, please follow our care guide.

We recommend you gently clean your plated jewellery with a soft lint free polishing cloth.  Do not use jewellery liquid cleaning solutions as this will remove the gold layers more quickly over time.

When cleaning chains, hold the cloth in one hand and gently pull the chain through.  It is best to clean chains with a cleaning solution to reduce risk of breaking links.  See our recommendations below.

Where possible store you jewellery out of sunlight, in a dry place.  Try to keep them separate so that pieces do not tangle, rub or scratch against each other.

When wearing your jewellery, it is best to put your jewellery on last.  Leave time for creams, perfume, hairspray, make-up to soak into the skin before applying your jewellery.

Remove your jewellery when showering, cooking, cleaning or swimming.  Chemicals and even water will encourage tarnishing on your jewellery.

Tips for Silver Jewellery

Silver jewellery can go dull very quickly and change to a dark colour.  This is called Oxidisation and can be reduced by regular cleaning.

We recommend either polishing your jewellery with a Silver Polishing Cloth or use a Silver Cleaning solution such as Hagertys or Town Talk.

Once your jewellery has been dipped, rinse your jewellery in warm water to remove the solution and then make sure your jewellery is thoroughly dried before storing.

Tips for Gold Jewellery

To keep your Gold jewellery looking its best we recommend cleaning it regularly to maintain its beauty.

Use either a Gold Polishing Cloth or Gold Cleaning Solution. Do not use a Silver Cloth or solution for Gold, it will not clean your jewellery in the same way and may put scratches on the surface.

Tips for Cleaning Gemstones

Over time dust, creams and natural oils can cloud the brilliance of gemstones.

We recommend cleaning your gemstones in a warm, soapy liquid.  For gemstones at 7 or above on the Mohs Scale, use an old toothbrush (soft bristles will remove dirt without damaging the stone), for anything under use a soft cloth.  Lastly rinse in clean, warm water to remove any soap.

To find out what your gemstone is on the Mohs scale, please visit https://www.gemsociety.org/article/select-gems-ordered-mohs-hardness/

Some gemstones will require special attention from that of above, such as; Opal, Pearl, Coral, Turquoise, Emerald, Tanzanite and Peridot.

Avoid using cleaning products on these stones, simply use a warm, damp cloth to remove dirt and make them sparkle again.

Tips for Cleaning Pearls

Natural pearls are much softer than any other gemstone and need special care to make their lustre last.

Wearing your pearl jewellery actually helps to prolong their life.  The natural oils in your skin over time create a layer, hydrating them and enhancing their natural lustre.

To clean your pearls, simply wipe them with a damp cloth and then let them naturally dry.  Do not use cleaning solutions or put them in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Where possible store them in their own box or silk bag to prevent other jewellery scratching the surface.  And keep away from warm temperatures.
